What is alloy wheel refurbishment?

As well as improving the aesthetics of your vehicle, alloy wheels can significantly enhance your vehicle’s performance. This includes better handling, more resilience against shocks and a lower fuel economy for your car. Alloy wheel refurbishment is the process of repairing alloy wheels to give them a new lease of life. Whether you’ve noticed scrapes, feel a difference in your steering or have knowingly clipped a kerb – alloy wheel refurb could be the solution.

What does alloy wheel refurb include?

1

Diamond-Cutting

Using our state-of-the-art CNC wheel lathe, we can refurbish diamond-cut alloys to factory standards. A layer of lacquer over the top also provides further protection against corrosion.
2

Powder Coating

Powder coating is the process of removing the tyres and stripping the wheels of all paint. Then, all damage is welded and smoothed before being sandblasted. We will then transfer the wheels to our oven to be powder-coated in the chosen colour before they are re-fitted and balanced.
3

Wheel Alignment

Once powder-coating has taken place, we will refit and align your wheels to ensure that they are functioning accurately and safely.
4

Welding & Rim Repairs

With our high-performance equipment, we also perform welding and rim repairs. This ensures any dents are repaired to high standards.

Why might I need alloy wheel refurbishment?

There are several warning signs to look out for that you may need an alloy wheel refurb. Here are some red flags to keep an eye on…

Shaking or vibrating when steering

If your steering column or seat is vibrating, this could mean that your tyres are making uneven contact with the surface of the road. This could point to damage to your alloy wheels and it’s essential that you contact a professional to take a look.

Poor handling

Vehicles with damaged alloys can often be more difficult to handle. This can have a knock-on effect on the tyre pressure, steering and performance, which could lead to an accident or other dangerous situation.

Visible damage

If you’ve knowingly clipped a kerb or hit a pothole, or if you’ve noticed visible damage to your alloys, it’s worthwhile getting them refurbished by a specialist. Alloy wheel refurb can get rid of any cosmetic damage and protect against further problems.

Deflating tyres

If your tyres have been deflating more regularly, this is a sign that your alloys could be damaged. Alloy wheels are designed to fit flush against a tyre with no air leakage, if they are deflating, it’s a safety hazard that must be looked at.

Increased fuel consumption

When alloy wheels are damaged, a vehicle’s engine has to work harder to keep the car moving. Not only will this significantly increase the amount of fuel that your vehicle consumes, but journeys will become longer as a result.

How long does alloy wheel refurbishment take?

Depending on how much work needs to be done, alloy wheel refurbs can take a minimum of 12 hours. As filler, lacquer and paint need to fully dry, this can take a little longer. If your alloy wheels are in a bad condition, this process could take longer.

How long do alloy wheels last?

Alloy wheels are known to last for 10+ years if maintained properly, which is why alloy wheel refurb is essential.
